Dear Member

Welcome to our Spring Newsletter and Calling Notice for our AGM. As always the arrival of Spring in Skelton is evidenced by the flowering of bulbs we have planted over the years throughout the village.

Our season of speaker evenings concludes on April 5th at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. Further details are below. The evening will start with our AGM, as always kept brief. Following the successful formula of the last two years, admission and the supper are complimentary, albeit a ticket – available from committee members and the village shop – is still required so we are aware of numbers attending.

This season’s speaker evenings – three are held annually from late Autumn to early Spring - have been very well supported and we hope members who have not so far attended might come along on this occasion to enjoy the presentation, the supper and the chat.

Secretary Vacancy – would you like to contribute to the community?

We continue to lack a Secretary and currently secretarial duties are shared amongst some committee members.
The duties are not onerous and no-obligation details are obtainable from the Chairman – email pbgarden@aol.com.

Celebrating Skelton - 50 Years of the Village Trust

2018 sees the 50th anniversary of the Village Trust. To mark the occasion we shall be staging an exhibition in the Village Hall on Saturday July 14th. The exhibition is currently planned to display aspects of Skelton history in association with the History Group and the Village Archive, the activities of the Trust, and aspects of Skelton today – organisations and clubs which use the Village Hall.

We shall be linking the exhibition with Skelton Primary School whose summer gala is on the same day. More info nearer the time.

York Local Plan

York City Council is currently consulting and inviting comments on the latest version of its Draft Local Plan with the intention of submitting a final version to the government Inspector by the end of May. We shall be reiterating our concerns regarding two aspects of the plan. Whilst our interest centres around the proposed 1300 + houses development in the valued green space between Skelton and Wigginton, we express major concern regarding the adequacy of the local road network – specifically the ring road – to handle the huge increase in traffic implied by this and other major housing and employment developments along the ring road. Unless major road capacity increases are made then the roads through Skelton will become busy with vehicles avoiding ring road congestion.

SVT Accounts

A reminder that subscriptions for calendar year 2018 are payable at the beginning of the year, so if you’ve overlooked it…………….
