SKELTON VILLAGE TRUST

Annual General Meeting 11th May 2011

Dear resident

The Skelton Village Trust, now in its 42nd year, exists to encourage interest in, and to care for, the appearance, history and character of our village and its surroundings. We carry out projects to maintain and improve its appearance – such as regular bulb and tree planting. We hold speaker evenings in the Village Hall on topics of interest which are also pleasant social occasions.

This report tells something of our activities. Our website will tell you more. If you are not a member we would welcome your support.

Philip Butler
Chairman

AGM in the Village Hall Wednesday 11th May 7.30pm

followed by
a presentation by Philip Thake,
Chief Executive of York Conservation Trust:
“York Conservation Trust - Custodians of the City's Heritage”

Copies of last year’s minutes are posted on the website and will be available at the meeting.
Our speaker Philip Thake will describe the work of his organisation. The York Conservation Trust has in its care many of York’s outstanding historical buildings.

This meeting is open to all residents, admission is free and a complimentary glass of wine will be offered.

Activities

During this and previous years members of the Trust have planted bulbs and (in partnership with the Parish Council) trees in various parts of the village – for example Fairfields Drive, Burtree, Brecksfield and The Green

Public benches on The Green, Orchard Field and The Village were repainted.

We have held three speaker/social evenings with a wide variety of speakers. All the events were well attended

A Christmas Tree was installed in the churchyard overlooking The Green, by kind permission of the Parochial Church Council. This was a first for us and was well received by residents and passers-by. We hope to make it an annual project.

The committee has continued to keep a watching brief on planning matters affecting the village.

A display of aspects of the archive was staged during Parents’ Day at the primary school last summer.

Orchard View Hedge

The Orchard View project has been completed with the old hedge and fence along with a large amount of rubbish having been removed and replaced with a new fence and environmentally friendly hedge. Two new trees, acers, have been planted along with wild flower seed and the area looks greatly improved.
